Your eyes say a lot about the rest of your health, so a good eye exam is about more than landing on a prescription. At Siegmund Eye Care in Myrtle Beach, we take the time to understand your eye care history and how you actually use your eyes day to day, whether this is your first visit or your fifteenth.
What a comprehensive eye exam covers
An exam with us looks at two things: how clearly you see, and how healthy your eyes are. That means checking your prescription, but also examining the front and back of the eye for the early signs of conditions that rarely announce themselves, glaucoma and diabetic changes among them. Most exams run between half an hour and an hour. Our new patient page walks through each test one by one if you like knowing what to expect.
Why we don’t rush
Plenty of the problems we catch are ones patients had no symptoms of. That’s the argument for a thorough exam rather than a quick refraction, and it’s why the optometrist you choose should care as much about the health of your eyes as about the accuracy of your lenses. If something needs watching, we’ll tell you what we saw and what we want to do about it.
